Ahmed Shehzad has taken a dig at batsmen Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, saying they “didn’t win any tournament” despite ruling Pakistan cricket.

Considering how long the duo have been in the team for despite the lack of any major silverware, Shehzad wants newcomers in the side to get a fair run, which, in his eyes, would equate to at least four tournaments.

Azam is being picked in all three formats once again after recently returning to the T20I squad, while Rizwan features in both the Test and ODI teams, but hasn’t played a T20I match since December 2024.

“Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan ruled Pakistan cricket but didn’t win any tournament. If they can get 8 tournaments, new players should at least get four,” Shehzad was quoted as saying on Facebook.

The Pakistan team recently took on South Africa on home soil, where they drew the Test series 1-1 and won the T20Is and ODIs 2-1.

They then whitewashed Sri Lanka 3-0 in an ODI series.

Pakistan are now taking part in a T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, which will conclude on November 29.

Pakistan squad for Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe T20I Tri-Series: Salman Ali Agha (captain), Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Salman Mirza, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Khan (wicketkeeper), Usman Tariq
