Pakistan opening batsman Abdullah Shafique has admitted he needs a “bit of luck” as he is currently going through a rough patch.

Shafique used to be one of Pakistan’s first-choice batsmen, but his form has taken a drastic hit as of late, which has led to fewer opportunities coming his way.

Nonetheless, the 25-year-old got the chance to play in the two-Test series against South Africa and made 106 runs, which included a top score of 57, at an average of 26.50.

In the hopes of regaining his form, Shafique revealed he has been hitting the nets and speaking to senior players in the team.

“I believe in international cricket, you need a bit of luck too. Every professional goes through a lean patch – I think I’m going through that phase. But good players are those who overcome these challenges. I’ve been working hard in the nets and in the camps before this. I’ve been working on correcting my mistakes,” he was quoted as saying by A Sports.

“We have many senior players in the team, and everyone goes through this phase. I try to talk as much as I can – the more you talk, the more you learn and reflect.”

After the Test series, Pakistan defeated South Africa 2-1 in both the T20Is and ODIs.

They then took on Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series and won 3-0.

The men in green will now go up against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in a T20I tri-series from November 18 to 29.
