Former Pakistan fast bowler Tanvir Ahmed has lashed out at left-arm spinner Asif Afridi, saying he doesn’t deserve to be in the Test team.
Afridi made his Test debut in the recent two-Test series against South Africa.
Playing in the 2nd Test, the 38-year-old had a major impact with the ball as he took six wickets in the first innings.
Despite this, Tanvir doesn’t understand why the Peshawar native was selected in the first place, especially considering he has only played 59 first-class games in his career.
It should be noted that Tanvir mentioned Afridi has only taken 83 wickets in 60 first-class matches, but he has actually claimed 205 wickets in 59 games at an average of 25.63.
“Who is this Asif Afridi, the left-arm spinner? If it’s him, then what’s his performance – only 83 wickets in 60 first-class matches, and he’s 38 years old. If it’s really him, then it seems like a huge blunder has been made. He doesn’t deserve a place in the Test team at all,” Tanvir said on X, formerly known as Twitter, as quoted by Geo Super.
After the Test series, which ended as a 1-1 draw, Pakistan and South Africa played a three-match T20I series, which the men in green won 1-1.
The two sides are now involved in a three-match ODI series, which is tied at 1-1 going into the 3rd ODI on November 8 in Faisalabad.
Next up, Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series from November 11 to 15, and then take part in a T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe from November 17 to 29.
