Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has praised big-hitter Hasan Nawaz as “a great addition” to the team and suggested that the men in green might “have found an important player”.
Nawaz’s explosive batting has won him plenty of admirers, a reputation further solidified by his T20I fifties against Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and his 63 not out in his ODI debut against the West Indies.
There were high expectations on the 23-year-old going into the 2025 Asia Cup, but he failed to deliver as he was limited to 17 runs in three games at an average of 5.66 and a strike-rate of 65.38.
Despite that setback, Salman wants Pakistan to maintain their faith in the Islamabad native and allow him to showcase his true potential.
“Hasan Nawaz has been a great addition since his debut. He’s been playing a brilliant role in the middle order, and by Allah’s grace, Pakistan have found an important player there,” he was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
Pakistan reached the final of the Asia Cup, but couldn’t get their hands on the trophy as India beat them by five wickets.
Next up for the men in green will be a home series against South Africa, which will comprise two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs.
The series will take place from October 12 to November 8.
