Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali believes white-ball head coach Mike Hesson doesn’t trust big-hitter Mohammad Haris as he was demoted from number six to number seven on the batting line-up.
Haris has been an inconsistent run-scorer and does have a tendency to throw his wicket away at times due to the aggressive brand of cricket he plays.
However, Basit believes a change is necessary for the 24-year-old, particularly as he continues to fall further down the batting order.
“When a player slips from number six to number seven, it’s clear the coach doesn’t trust him either,” he said on his YouTube channel as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.
Haris recently featured in Pakistan’s T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in Sharjah.
In five games, he made 33 runs at an average of 6.60 and a strike-rate of 84.61.
He was then involved in the 2025 Asia Cup and accumulated 131 runs in seven games, which included a top score of 66, at an average of 21.83 and a strike-rate of 133.67.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a home series against South Africa from October 12 to November 8.
The series will comprise two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs.
