Ravichandran Ashwin: “As for an hero from Pakistan, it could be Sufiyan Muqeem… He’s a bit inconsistent, which makes things tricky in T20 cricket. But I’m curious to see how Pakistan grooms him”

India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin expressed interest in his Pakistani counterpart Sufiyan Muqeem, believing the 25-year-old has the potential to become a hero for Pakistan.
Ashwin acknowledged that Muqeem needs to refine his game, as he can be “a bit inconsistent”.
Nevertheless, he is keen to see how Pakistan develops the left-arm wrist-spinner and the role he will play in the future.
“As for an hero from Pakistan, it could be Sufiyan Muqeem… He’s a bit inconsistent, which makes things tricky in T20 cricket. But I’m curious to see how Pakistan grooms him,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel as quoted by A Sports.
Muqeem recently featured in Pakistan’s T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan, where he took four wickets in four games at an average of 27.75 and an economy rate of 8.02.
He then played in the 2025 Asia Cup and finished with two wickets in two matches at an average of 18 and an economy rate of 6.17.
Pakistan managed to reach the final of the Asia Cup, but came up short in their bid to win the tournament as India beat them by five wickets.
Next up for Pakistan will be a home series against South Africa that will include two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs.
The series is scheduled to be held from October 12 to November 8.
