Azam Khan: “My dad saw me bowling leg-spin and told me to opt [for] wicketkeeping instead”

Pakistan big-hitter Azam Khan has revealed that he used to be a leg-spinner before his father, former captain Moin Khan, turned him into a wicketkeeper-batsman.
Azam has shown flashes of brilliance in his career, but has frequently faced criticism for his weight and inconsistent run-scoring.
He played for Islamabad United in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and accumulated 66 runs in seven games at an average of 11 and a strike-rate of 101.53.
“My dad saw me bowling leg-spin and told me to opt [for] wicketkeeping instead,” Azam told PakPassion.
Pakistan have had a busy schedule as of late, but Azam was not part of the squad for the T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore, the tour of Bangladesh, the white-ball tour of the West Indies, and the T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in Sharjah.
He also didn’t make the cut for the ongoing 2025 Asia Cup, which is being played in the UAE.
Pakistan beat Oman and the UAE in the group stage, while also losing to India.
They failed to defeat again in the Super Four, but bounced back to secure wins over Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, which earned them a place in the final.
The Asia Cup final between India and Pakistan will be held on September 28 in Dubai.
