Legendary England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has named Babar Azam as his favourite Pakistan batsman right now.
Azam has long been Pakistan’s most consistent run-scorer across all three formats, but his form has taken quite a hit for the past year.
Despite this, Pietersen still holds the 30-year-old in high regard.
“Babar,” he said when asked who his favourite Pakistan batsman was during a Q&A session on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Azam was not selected for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore, the T20I tour of Bangladesh, and the T20I series against the West Indies.
He did play in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, but failed to have much of an impact as he was restricted to 56 runs at an average of 18.66.
Following their tour of the West Indies, Pakistan took on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in a T20I tri-series in Sharjah, which they won.
The men in green are now featuring in the 2025 Asia Cup, which is being held in the UAE.
They began their campaign with a 93-run win over Oman before suffering a seven-wicket defeat in their highly-anticipated clash against India.
Pakistan’s next match will be against the UAE on September 17 in Dubai.
