
Kevin Pietersen: “I always wished I’d had the chance to face Ambrose/Walsh & Wasim/Waqar in their pomp”

Iconic England batsman Kevin Pietersen has revealed that he wished he had gotten the chance to face the legendary Pakistan pace duo of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.
Wasim and Waqar are arguably the two greatest fast bowlers ever produced by Pakistan.
Wasim represented his country in 104 Tests and took 414 wickets at an average of 23.62.
He is also the second-highest wicket-taker in ODI history as he picked up 502 wickets in 356 matches at an average of 23.52.
Waqar, meanwhile, finished with 373 wickets in 87 Tests at an average of 23.56.
As for his ODI career, he snapped up 416 wickets in 262 games at an average of 23.84.
In addition to Wasim and Waqar, Pietersen acknowledged that he would have also liked to face Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh of the West Indies.
“I always wished I’d had the chance to face Ambrose/Walsh & Wasim/Waqar in their pomp!” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Pakistan team have been really busy as of late as they took on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series in Lahore, which they won 3-0.
After that, the men in green travelled to Bangladesh to play three T20Is, but ended up losing 2-1.
They then went to the West Indies and came away with mixed results as they won the T20I series 2-1 but lost the ODIs 2-1.
Most recently, Pakistan faced the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in a T20I tri-series in Sharjah, which they won.
The men in green are now involved in the 2025 Asia Cup, which is being played in the UAE.
