Veteran Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad believes batsmen Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan will be out of the T20I team for a long time.
The duo have missed Pakistan’s last few T20I assignments, even though they once were the go-to openers in the shortest format.
Azam and Rizwan used to score runs consistently at the top of the order, but many people criticised them for wasting too many balls.
Shehzad knows how talented the pair are, but thinks it is the “right decision” to keep them out of the T20I side.
“According to my information, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are out of [the] Pakistan T20 squad for a long time, which is the right decision,” he was quoted as saying by Khel Shel on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Azam and Rizwan were not picked for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore, the T20I tour of Bangladesh, and the T20I series against the West Indies.
They also missed out on the T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in Sharjah, which the men in green won.
Pakistan are now involved in the 2025 Asia Cup, which is being played in the UAE.
They started their campaign with a 93-run win over Oman.
Next up for Pakistan will be a clash against arch-rivals India on September 14 in Dubai.
