
Khurram Shahzad: “I don’t just hope – I firmly believe – that I will play white-ball cricket for Pakistan, in addition to red-ball cricket”

Pakistan seamer Khurram Shahzad firmly believes that he will play white-ball cricket for his country in the near future.
Shahzad has already made his Test debut and taken 20 wickets in six matches, which includes a five-wicket haul, at an average of 30.
Since he is currently playing white-ball cricket for Worcestershire, the 25-year-old is ready to take the next step in his international career and feature in ODIs and T20Is.
“I don’t just hope – I firmly believe – that I will play white-ball cricket for Pakistan, in addition to red-ball cricket. I’ve been playing in the Pakistan Super League for the past five years, and I had a great performance in the recent season,” he told Geo News.
In the Vitality Blast, which is England’s T20 competition, Shahzad took seven wickets in five matches for Worcestershire at an average of 21.85 and an economy rate of 8.12.
As for the One-Day Cup, he helped his side qualify for the final as he has claimed 12 wickets in seven games at an average of 28.75.
In regards to the County Championship, the Mandi Bahauddin native has picked up eight wickets in three matches at an average of 40.50.
“Now, getting this opportunity to perform as an overseas player in the T20 Blast is also a big deal for me. It’s a fantastic tournament, and I’m doing my best to perform well here too so that I can impress the national selectors and represent Pakistan in both T20 and ODI formats. I truly believe, Insha’Allah, that this will happen,” Shahzad said.
With Shahzad playing county cricket in England, he did feature in Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore, the T20I tour of Bangladesh, and the limited overs tour of the West Indies.
Most recently, the men in green won a T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in Sharjah.
Pakistan are now in action in the 2025 Asia Cup, which is being held in the UAE.
