Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha has announced that “world-class bowler” Shaheen Shah Afridi will keep playing a “big role” in ODIs and T20Is.

Afridi has been in excellent form as of late and Salman has vowed to continue backing the 25-year-old.

After missing the T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore and the tour of Bangladesh, he returned for Pakistan’s T20I series against the West Indies and picked up two wickets in two matches at an average of 29 and an economy rate of 7.25.

As for the three-match ODI series that followed, Afridi claimed four wickets in two games at an average of 21.50.

Following the West Indies tour, Pakistan played a T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in Sharjah, which they ended up winning.

In four matches, Afridi took four wickets at an average of 19.50 and an economy rate of 5.57.

“Shaheen is a world-class bowler. We’ll continue to see him playing a big role for Pakistan white-ball cricket in the future,” Salman was quoted as saying by A Sports.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be the 2025 Asia Cup, which will be held in the UAE from September 9 to 28.
