Pakistan spinner Imad Wasim thinks wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan is “such a phenomenal talent”, but needs to get his head right in order to perform consistently.

Azam, the son of former Pakistan captain Moin Khan, has shown flashes of brilliance throughout his career.

However, weight issues and inconsistent performances have dogged his career, leading to regular criticism.

The 27-year-old failed to impress in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) as he only managed to make 66 runs in seven matches for Islamabad United at an average of 11 and a strike-rate of 101.53.

Despite this, Imad defended Azam, noting that one subpar campaign doesn’t make him a bad player.

“Just get his head right towards the game because he’s such a phenomenal talent. He is showing [this] all over the world but one season doesn’t make you a bad player,” he was quoted as saying by Geo Super.

After the PSL, Pakistan took on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series and triumphed 3-0.

They then embarked on a tour of Bangladesh, which consisted of three T20Is, and lost 2-1.

As for their tour of the West Indies, the men in green got back to winning ways in the T20I series as they secured a 2-1 victory.

However, things didn’t go as well in the ODI series as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat.

Pakistan are now taking on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in a T20I tri-series in Sharjah, which will end on September 7.

After that, they will be involved in the 2025 Asia Cup, which will take place in the UAE from September 9 to 28.

Pakistan squad for UAE T20I tri-series and 2025 Asia Cup: Salman Ali Agha (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris (wicketkeeper), Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Salman Mirza, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sufiyan Muqeem
