Pakistan pace bowler Hasan Ali is glad that he has defied expectations after remembering how “everyone said my career was over” in 2019.

Hasan fought through tough injuries and earned a recall to the national team by dominating at the domestic level.

He also put up a fantastic performance in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which would have further convinced the selectors to give him another chance.

In PSL 10, the 31-year-old ended up being the joint second-highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets in 10 matches for the Karachi Kings at an average of 20.47 and an economy rate of 9.03.

He then made his international return in Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore and claimed eight wickets, which included a career-best five-wicket haul, at an average of 11.12 and an economy rate of 9.53.

“When I got injured in 2019, everyone said my career was over – that Hasan Ali would no longer be seen anywhere. I was removed from the central contract. I had made up my mind that if I made a comeback, it should feel like my debut again. And that’s exactly what happened this time too,” Hasan told Geo News.

“I believe in myself. When Allah has given you hands and feet, no power in the world can stop you. I stayed positive, believed in myself, and that’s why I’m performing again after a second injury.”

The Gujranwala native missed Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh, where the men in green lost the T20I series 2-1, as he was representing the Birmingham Bears in the Vitality Blast.

However, Hasan will don the Pakistan jersey again during the upcoming tour of the West Indies, which will consist of three T20Is and three ODIs that will be played from August 1 to 12.
