Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali credited left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi for giving batsman Mohammad Naeem a chance to showcase his talent during the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Afridi captained the Lahore Qalandars in PSL 10 and led them to the title.
Under his leadership, Naeem was given plenty of opportunities to shine and didn’t disappoint as he struck 314 runs in 12 games, which included three fifties, at an average of 26.16 and a strike-rate of 162.69.
With Naeem having put his talent on display, Basit thanked Afridi for letting the 26-year-old show what he can do in one of the world’s biggest T20 leagues.
“Shaheen Afridi brought him (Mohammad Naeem). I have done my research and found that it was Shaheen who brought Naeem,” he said on ARY News’ PSL 10 Special Transmission show.
Despite doing well in PSL 10, Naseem was not selected for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which the men in green won 3-0.
He also didn’t make the cut for Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh, where they lost the T20I series 2-1.
Next up for Pakistan will be a tour of the West Indies, which will consist of three T20Is and three ODIs to be played from August 1 to 12.
