Pakistan spinner Shadab Khan has conceded that he needs to work harder on his bowling as it has let him down in the past.

The 26-year-old was named Pakistan’s T20I vice-captain prior to the team’s limited overs tour of New Zealand, adding more pressure on him to perform with the ball.

In the five-match T20I series against the Black Caps, Shadab fell well short of expectations as he only took one wicket at an average of 143 and an economy rate of 11.

“I consider myself a bowling all-rounder. My batting ability is natural, but I know I need to work harder on my bowling,” the Mianwali native told Cricket Pakistan.

Following the tour of New Zealand, Shadab captained Islamabad United in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and looked to be getting back to his best as he finished with 14 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 16.57 and an economy rate of 7.90.

He maintained his newfound momentum in the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh as he claimed four wickets at an average of 16.25 and an economy rate of 7.22.

Pakistan won the series 3-0.

The men in green will now tour Bangladesh for three T20Is, which will be played in Mirpur from July 20 to 24.

Shadab was not selected for the series as he is recovering after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder.
