Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has taken aim at promising left-arm fast bowler Akif Javed, saying he “does not know how to land his front foot while bowling”.
Javed made his international debut in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand earlier this year and performed brilliantly as he was Pakistan’s top wicket-taker with seven wickets at an average of 23.57.
Even though he showed his potential, Akmal cannot believe the 24-year-old hasn’t mastered some of the basics despite having played so much domestic cricket.
“Despite having risen to prominence from the Pakistan domestic cricket, Akif does not know how to land his front foot while bowling,” he said on his YouTube channel as quoted by Samaa TV.
After the tour of New Zealand, Javed represented the Multan Sultans in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and picked up four wickets in three games at an average of 34.25 and an economy rate of 12.45.
The Kohat native was not selected for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which they won 3-0.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which will be held in Mirpur from July 20 to 24.
