Former Pakistan pace bowler Tanvir Ahmed believes the selectors are wasting left-arm spinner Mehran Mumtaz’s talent.
Mumtaz has shown plenty of promise in domestic cricket thus far as he has a bowling average of 33.14 in first-class cricket, 33.53 in List A cricket, and 27.70 in T20s.
The 22-year-old recently represented Rawalpindi Region in the National T20 Cup, where he went wicketless in his three matches, but scored 57 runs, which included a career-best 51, at an average of 28.50 and a strike-rate of 190.
Considering the impact Mumtaz can have with both the bat and ball, Tanvir feels he should be getting more chances, especially since he didn’t play a single game in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL).
“Our selectors are wasting talent like Mehran Mumtaz, just see how great is his batting along with bowling… he is a good T20 cricketer,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Pakistan team recently took part in the 2025 Champions Trophy, where they crashed out in the group stage, before touring New Zealand, where they lost the T20I series 4-1 and the ODIs 3-0.
Currently, the men in green are taking on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series and hold a 1-0 lead after winning the 1st T20I by 37 runs.
The 2nd T20I will be played on May 30 in Lahore.
