Iconic Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf has lashed out at Abdullah Shafique, revealing he has told the opener about two main problems with his batting since 2021.
Yousuf pointed out that Shafique has a “big gap in his stance” when facing every ball.
In addition to that, he has a technical flaw when batting against spinners.
Since Yousuf has repeatedly told Shafique about these issues, he questioned whether the 25-year-old “has no time” or “doesn’t want to understand”.
“I’ve been telling him since 2021-22, when I was with him, that there are two main problems. But maybe he has no time, or he doesn’t want to understand,” he was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
“On every ball, there is such a big gap in his stance, and against spinners, his leg moves in such a way that when a left-arm spinner brings the ball in, he gets hit on the pads.”
Shafique was recently in action in Pakistan’s three-match ODI series against New Zealand and scored 70 runs at an average of 23.33.
He is now taking part in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and has accumulated 349 runs in 12 matches for the Lahore Qalandars, which includes three fifties, at an average of 31.72 and a strike-rate of 148.51.
The Qalandars have qualified for the PSL final and will face the Quetta Gladiators on May 25.
After PSL 10 concludes, Pakistan will go up against Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, which will take place in Lahore from May 28 to June 1.
Despite his strong PSL campaign, Shafique has not been picked for the Bangladesh series.
