Former Australia captain Michael Clarke believes Pakistan should get legendary fast bowler Waqar Younis in as head coach right now.
Waqar has served as Pakistan’s head coach on multiple occasions in the past and Clarke feels the men in green would benefit by having “one of their own” in charge.
Aaqib Javed was recently head coach on an interim basis, but has now been appointed Director of High-Performance.
Ex-New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson has succeeded Aaqib as white-ball head coach, but it remains to be seen who will take over in the red-ball format.
“In regards to Pakistan cricket, I think they would be better suited right now by finding one of their own as head coach. I think Waqar Younis is a good example. If Pakistan could get him as head coach right now, I think that would be great,” Clarke was quoted as saying by TOK Sports on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pakistan have endured a dismal run of form lately as they crashed out in the group stage of the 2025 Champions Trophy after going winless.
Following this, they embarked on a limited overs tour of New Zealand and were thumped 4-1 in the T20Is before being whitewashed 3-0 in the ODIs.
Many of the national players are now featuring in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which will conclude on May 25.
Once PSL 10 is done, Pakistan will take on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series in Lahore from May 28 to June 1.
