Former left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir believes Pakistan shouldn’t have let white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten go.

Kirsten is one of the most decorated coaches in international cricket and there were big expectations when he took over as coach of the men in green.

However, things didn’t go to plan and he ended up resigning barely six months into his tenure.

Amir questioned how Pakistan could have let a coach of such calibre leave just like that and believes the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) really missed a trick.

“If Gary Kirsten had become Pakistan’s head coach by mistake, we shouldn’t have let him go,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Pakistan have failed to put up good results as of late as they were knocked out in the group stage of the 2025 Champions Trophy after not being able to win a single game.

They then went to New Zealand and were thumped 4-1 in the T20I series before being demolished 3-0 in the ODIs.

Currently, many of the national players are participating in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL).

PSL 10 was postponed midway through due to Pakistan’s border tensions with India, but restarted shortly after and will now conclude on May 25.
