Former Pakistan red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie sees plenty of promise in mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed, calling him a “fine young bowler”.

Abrar has enjoyed a strong start to his international career and is starting to become one of Pakistan’s first-choice spinners in all three formats.

With the 26-year-old having captured a lot of attention, Gillespie has backed him to get even better and have a greater impact in the future.

“Abrar (Ahmed), obviously, is a fine young bowler in the early stages of his career,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Abrar recently took part in the 2025 Champions Trophy and took two wickets in two matches at an average of 37.50.

Following this, he featured in Pakistan’s limited overs series against New Zealand and claimed five wickets in three T20Is at an average of 19.80.

As for the three-match ODI series, he wasn’t included in the playing XI for any of the games.

Abrar is now playing for the Quetta Gladiators in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and has claimed seven wickets in three matches at an average of 15.42.

PSL 10 began on April 11 and will finish on May 18.
