Rashid Latif: “Shaheen Afridi [is] mentally very strong, he should continue Test cricket”

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif wants left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi to keep playing Test cricket.
His comments come after Afridi was not included in Pakistan’s squad for the Test series against South Africa and the West Indies.
Questions have also been raised about the 25-year-old’s commitment to the longest format, even though he has made it clear that Tests are his top priority.
It remains to be seen if Afridi will be recalled to the Test team in the near future, but Latif has urged him not to give up on the format.
“Shaheen Afridi [is] mentally very strong, he should continue Test cricket,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Afridi was recently involved in Pakistan’s ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, where he took six wickets in three games at an average of 33.16.
After this, he represented his country in the 2025 Champions Trophy and snapped up two wickets in two matches at an average of 71.
Pakistan crashed out in the group stage of the tournament after losing to New Zealand and India.
Their final game against Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain.
Afridi then travelled to New Zealand with the Pakistan team and snapped up two wickets in four T20Is at an average of 66.50.
The men in green lost the T20I series 4-1 before being whitewashed 3-0 in the ODIs, which Afridi wasn’t picked for.
Afridi’s next assignment will be the 2025 Pakistan Super Legaue (PSL), where he will captain the Lahore Qalandars.
PSL 10 will take place from April 11 to May 18.
