Pakistan assistant coach Azhar Mahmood has insisted that there is “no need to worry” about batsman Babar Azam.

Azam has struggled to score runs regularly over the last few months, which has been a major talking point as he is one of the top batsmen in the team.

The 30-year-old recently featured in the ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, but failed to have much of an impact.

In the three games he played, the Lahore native could only muster 62 runs at an average of 20.66.

He then took part in the 2025 Champions Trophy and amassed 87 runs in two games, which included a top score of 64, at an average of 43.50.

After this, Pakistan toured New Zealand and were crushed 4-1 in the T20Is, which Azam was not picked for.

However, he was involved in the three-match ODI series and accumulated 129 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 43.

Despite not being anywhere near his best for the last few months, Mahmood reiterated that he has no concerns about Azam and is confident that he will start posting big scores again very soon.

“Babar has been scoring runs, so there is no need to worry about his form,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Azam’s next assignment will be the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he will represent the Peshawar Zalmi.

PSL 10 will be held from April 11 to May 18.

Peshawar Zalmi Squad for PSL 10:

  • Platinum: Babar Azam (captain), Saim Ayub, Tom Kohler-Cadmore
