Legendary Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Wasim Akram doesn’t want to coach the national team as he admitted he wouldn’t be able to handle the amount of disrespect that would be directed at him.
He noted that many coaches in the past, including Waqar Younis, who was his pace bowling partner during his playing days, got treated terribly.
Having seen what coaches go through when in charge of the Pakistan team, the Sultan of Swing reiterated that he has no interest in taking up such a role.
“When I see how some people treat Pakistani coaches, including Waqar, who has coached several times, I know I couldn’t handle that level of disrespect directed at me,” Wasim was quoted as saying by A Sports.
Pakistan recently featured in the 2025 Champions Trophy and were dumped out in the group stage after going winless.
They are now touring New Zealand and began on a low as they were crushed 4-1 in the T20Is.
Currently, the two teams are playing a three-match ODI series, which the Black Caps lead 2-0.
The 3rd ODI began on April 5 in Mount Maunganui.
