Mohammad Hafeez questioned why Pakistan batsman Shan Masood never made a comeback in ODIs and T20Is

Mohammad Hafeez: “Shan Masood scored [the] most runs for Pakistan in T20 World Cup [in] 2022. What [did] he [get] in return? He never made a comeback in white-ball formats for Pakistan”

Former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has questioned why Test captain Shan Masood never made a comeback to the limited overs formats.

He noted that Masood was the joint highest run-scorer in the 2022 T20 World Cup with 175 runs in seven matches, which included a top score of 52 not out, at an average of 43.75 and a strike-rate of 118.24.

Since that tournament, the 35-year-old hasn’t represented Pakistan in a T20I.

As for his ODI career, Masood last featured in the 50-over format in May 2023.

With years having passed since he played white-ball cricket, Hafeez wants to know why the selectors have continuously overlooked Masood.

“Shan Masood scored [the] most runs for Pakistan in T20 World Cup [in] 2022. What [did] he [get] in return? He never made a comeback in white-ball formats for Pakistan,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Pakistan recently took part in the 2025 Champions Trophy and were knocked out in the group stage after going winless.

They are now taking on New Zealand in a limited overs series and were demolished 4-1 in the T20Is.

The two sides are now playing three ODIs, which the Black Caps lead 1-0 after claiming a 73-run win in the 1st ODI in Napier.

The 2nd ODI will be held on April 2 in Hamilton.
