Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali has expressed his concerns about pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi, saying he has looked “completely off-colour”.
Basit noted that the 24-year-old’s performance started going downhill following his back-to-back knee injuries in 2022.
Afridi hasn’t been anywhere near his best lately as he took two wickets in two matches in the 2025 Champions Trophy at an average of 71.
Currently he is in action in Pakistan’s limited overs series against New Zealand and has claimed two wickets in four games at an average of 66.50.
“Shaheen Shah Afridi was completely off-colour. After facing the knee injury, Shaheen Shah Afridi is struggling to pitch the ball,” he said on his YouTube channel as quoted by Samaa TV.
Pakistan are 3-1 down in the T20I series against New Zealand and will look to secure a consolation win in the 5th T20I on March 26 in Wellington.
After this, the two teams will play three ODIs, with the first match getting underway on March 29 in Napier.
