Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has praised middle order batsman Saud Shakeel, saying he is “a good player”.
Shakeel has become one of the key members of the middle order in multiple formats as he has scored runs regularly.
During the ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, the 29-year-old made 23 runs in two games at an average of 11.50.
He did much better in the 2025 Champions Trophy as he amassed 68 runs in two games, which included a top score of 62, at an average of 34.
“Technically, Saud Shakeel is a good player, he plays very well,” Kaneria told IANS as quoted by NDTV.
Pakistan were eliminated in the group stage of the Champions Trophy as they lost to New Zealand and India.
Their final game against Bangladesh was washed out, meaning they failed to win a single match throughout the tournament.
Pakistan are now playing a limited overs series against New Zealand, which comprises five T20Is and three ODIs, but Shakeel failed to make the cut for both the T20I and ODI squads.
The men in green are currently 2-0 down in the T20I series ahead of the 3rd T20I, which takes place on March 21 in Auckland.
