Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif believes Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan “is greater than Wasim Akram”.
Wasim is widely regarded as the best fast bowler Pakistan has ever produced as he had the ability to swing the ball both ways and could unleashed devastating bouncers and yorkers.
He represented his country in 104 Tests and took 414 wickets at an average of 23.62.
Wasim is also the second-highest wicket-taker in ODI history as he picked up 502 wickets in 356 matches at an average of 23.52.
Despite everything the Sultan of Swing accomplished in his illustrious career, Latif feels Rashid has already overtaken him.
“Rashid has brought Afghanistan on the map, he has helped them get recognition. He is greater than Wasim Akram. I am sorry to say but Rashid’s stature is bigger,” he said on the Hasna Mana Hai show on Geo News as quoted by NDTV.
Rashid recently played for Afghanistan in the 2025 Champions Trophy and claimed one wicket in three matches at an average of 125.
The Pakistan team endured a disastrous campaign as they lost to New Zealand and India, which led to them getting knocked out in the group stage.
Their final game against Bangladesh was washed out, meaning they failed to secure a single victory during the tournament.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a tour of New Zealand, which will consist of five T20Is and three ODIs that will be played from March 16 to April 5.
