Pakistan pace bowler Naseem Shah has revealed that he bats “as an opener in club cricket”.

Naseem is one of Pakistan’s go-to seamers in all three formats of the game, but he has expressed an interest in becoming a better batsman.

The 22-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance with the bat and now hopes to improve his skills so he can have more of impact when batting lower down the order.

“I am working on my batting skills in club cricket and I bat as an opener in club cricket,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Naseem recently featured in Pakistan’s ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, where the men in green made it to the final before losing to the Black Caps.

In the three matches he played, he took three wickets at an average of 60.33.

Naseem was then involved in the 2025 Champions Trophy and ended up with two wickets in two games at an average of 50.

Pakistan were eliminated in the group stage of the tournament after losing to New Zealand and India, while their final match against Bangladesh was washed out.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be a white-ball tour of New Zealand, where they will play five T20Is and three ODIs from March 16 to April 5.
