Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal still believes Babar Azam is the country’s “number one batter” despite his struggles as of late.
Azam is renowned for his consistency when it comes to scoring runs, but he hasn’t been able to make big scores for the men in green regularly over the past few months.
Most recently, the 30-year-old was in action in the ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, where he amassed 62 runs in three matches at an average of 20.66.
“I still believe Babar is Pakistan’s number one batter. Every player goes through a rough patch. But even then, you have to play according to the situation, and you have to survive the tough times,” Akmal told Cricket Pakistan.
Azam is currently representing Pakistan in the 2025 Champions Trophy and has made scores of 64 and 23 against New Zealand and India respectively.
Despite this, the men in green lost both matches and have now been eliminated from the tournament.
Pakistan’s last Champions Trophy match will be against Bangladesh on February 27 in Rawalpindi.
