Pakistan batsman Fakhar Zaman has revealed that he lost 10 kilograms after suffering from hyperthyroidism.

Zaman admitted that he didn’t know he was suffering from the illness, which kept him out of the national team.

The 34-year-old noted that his “muscles got weaker too” and it took him a long time to recover.

“I was out due to hyperthyroid. I lost 10kg in weight and my muscles got weaker too. The recovery took a lot of time. The worst part was that we got to know about this disease too late, it was affecting me for 4 months and I didn’t know,” he said on the PCB Podcast as quoted by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Zaman made his international comeback in the recent ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, where he smashed 135 runs in three matches, which included a top score of 84, at an average of 45 and a strike-rate of 120.53.

The Mardan native then featured in the ongoing 2025 Champions Trophy and made 24 runs in the opening game against New Zealand, which the men in green lost by 60 runs.

However, he was ruled out for the remainder of the tournament after suffering an oblique injury and was replaced by Imam-ul-Haq.

Pakistan have already been knocked out of the Champions Trophy as they lost to India by six wickets.

Their last group stage match will be against Bangladesh on February 27 in Rawalpindi.
