Pakistan big-hitter Fakhar Zaman said he hopes batsman Babar Azam performs very well during the ongoing 2025 Champions Trophy.

Azam is currently in the midst of a rough patch and has been trying his best to get back into form.

The 30-year-old has come under increasing criticism for his failure to score runs consistently as he is expected to be Pakistan’s frontline batsman.

During the recent ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, he managed to make 62 runs in three games at an average of 20.66.

Despite not being anywhere near his best, Zaman is confident that the Lahore native will light up the tournament.

“The range Babar has in ODIs makes cricket very easy for you, I hope Babar will perform very well,” he said on the PCB Podcast as quoted by A Sports.

Azam started the Champions Trophy with 64 runs against New Zealand, which came off 90 balls and included six boundaries and a six.

Zaman, meanwhile, suffered an injury right at the start of the game but did return to field and bat, making 24 runs.

Pakistan ended up losing to New Zealand by 60 runs and will now be looking to get their Champions Trophy campaign back on track when they take on India on February 23 in Dubai.
