Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali believes limited overs captain Babar Azam “will be hungry” to score big runs again after he fell down the Test rankings.

Azam used to be in the top 10 in the Test batsmen standings, but after a string of disappointing performances, he has dropped down to 20th place.

While the 30-year-old still remains number one in ODIs and number seven in T20Is, Basit sees him descending down the rankings in both formats if he fails to rediscover his form.

“Now Babar will be hungry. If he is still not hungry to perform, it will hurt a lot,” he said on his YouTube channel as quoted by NDTV.

Azam was recently involved in Pakistan’s ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, where he accumulated 62 runs in three matches at an average of 20.66.

Next up for him and the men in green will be the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will take place from February 19 to March 9.
