Veteran Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad has backed Babar Azam to be the “best batsman” in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Azam has struggled to score runs consistently, but Shehzad is optimistic that the 30-year-old will have a strong campaign in the tournament.
Recently, Azam took part in Pakistan’s ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, and finished with 62 runs in three games at an average of 20.66.
Even though the Lahore native hasn’t been anywhere near his best, Shehzad noted that he “owns” the ODI format as he currently averages 55.73.
“I have high expectations from Babar Azam. He owns this format, and he will emerge as the best batsman in the… Champions Trophy,” he was quoted as saying by TOK Sports on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Champions Trophy will be held from February 19 to March 9.
