Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif believes batsman Usman Khan wouldn’t have made the 2025 Champions Trophy team if wasn’t a wicketkeeper as well.
Latif noted that the 29-year-old has not performed well in international cricket at all.
Usman has represented Pakistan in 18 T20Is and scored 232 runs, which includes a top score of 52, at an average of 15.46 and a strike-rate of 122.75.
Even though he has yet to make his ODI debut, he was still included in Pakistan’s squad for the Champions Trophy.
“Usman Khan is kept as a wicketkeeper, otherwise, he wouldn’t have even made it in the team. He has not shown impressive performances,” Latfi was quoted as saying by Khel Shel on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Usman was recently involved in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), where he played for the Chittagong Kings and accumulated 285 runs in eight games, which included a century and two fifties, at an average of 35.62 and a strike-rate of 167.64.
He was part of Pakistan’s team for the recent ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, but wasn’t included in the playing XI for any of the matches.
The Karachi native will now be hoping to make his ODI debut in the Champions Trophy, which takes place from February 19 to March 9.
