Faisal Iqbal: “He looks technically very weak on spin and pace, and his run-scoring ability”

Former Pakistan batsman Faisal Iqbal has sounded the alarm about opener Muhammad Hurraira, saying he “looks technically very weak” against both spin and pace.
He also has doubts about the 22-year-old’s “run-scoring ability” following his disappointing debut in the recent two-Test series against the West Indies.
Hurraira was given the opportunity to open the batting in both matches, but failed to have much of an impact as he only managed to make 46 runs at an average of 11.50.
Given all the flaws he spotted, Faisal suggested that the Sialkot native return to the domestic circuit and “learn to score more runs” in red-ball cricket.
“Muhammad Hurraira needs to play more domestic first-class cricket and ‘learn’ to score more runs in red-ball [cricket] as Test cricket requires experience and concentration. Selectors need to think. He looks technically very weak on spin and pace, and his run-scoring ability,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Hurraira was not selected for Pakistan’s ongoing ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa.
He was also overlooked for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will be played from February 19 to March 9.
