Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has dismissed speculation that he wanted to leave the Peshawar Zalmi ahead of the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Azam noted that he wants to continue playing for the franchise and has no plans to switch to another PSL team.

He noted that these rumours are baseless and are simply created by journalists to add “masala” to their stories.

“I didn’t want to leave Peshawar Zalmi, I want to continue playing for this team. There’s always rumours in the media, journalists also need ‘masala’ to run their stories, but the news of me leaving Zalmi was false,” the 30-year-old was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Azam recently toured South Africa with the Pakistan team and began by making 31 runs in two T20Is at an average of 15.50.

He had a lot more success in the ODI series as he amassed 148 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 49.33.

As for the two-Test series, he continued to do well, scoring 193 runs, which included three half-centuries, at an average of 48.25.

Azam then featured in Pakistan’s two-Test series against the West Indies, but failed to have the same kind of impact as he was restricted to 45 runs at an average of 11.25.

PSL 10 is scheduled to be held from April 10 to May 25.
