Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Atiq-uz-Zaman believes fast bowler Mohammad Abbas should have never been dropped from the Test team.

His comments come after Abbas returned from a three-year absence during the two-Test series against South Africa.

The 34-year-old showed he hadn’t missed a beat as he ended up being Pakistan’s highest wicket-taker in the series with 10 wickets at an average of 24.60.

His most notable performance came in the 2nd innings of the 1st Test in Centurion, where he finished with career-best figures of 6-54.

Given how good Abbas looked despite being away from the national team for a few years, Atiq questioned why the Sialkot native was even dropped in the first place.

“I think Abbas should never have been out of the Pakistan team,” he told PakPassion.

After the South Africa tour, Pakistan took on the West Indies in a two-Test series in Multan, but Abbas was not selected for that series.

The series ended up finishing as a 1-1 draw.
