Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Atiq-uz-Zaman has lashed out at the national selectors, saying they should be “ashamed of themselves” for ignoring fast bowler Mohammad Abbas for three years.

Abbas recently made his Test comeback in the two-match series against South Africa and ended up being Pakistan’s best bowler by a long way.

The 34-year-old from Sialkot finished with 10 wickets, which included career-best figures of 6-54 in the 1st Test, at an average of 24.60.

Considering how effective Abbas was, Atiq pointed out that the selectors missed out on “3 good years” from him when he was continuously snubbed.

“The selectors should be ashamed of themselves because they lost 3 good years of Mohammad Abbas,” he was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Even though Abbas bowled superbly throughout the Test series against South Africa, Pakistan still ended up being whitewashed 2-0.

Interestingly, Abbas was not selected for Pakistan’s ongoing two-Test series against the West Indies, which they lead 1-0 after winning the 1st Test in Multan by 127 runs.

The 2nd Test began on January 25 in Multan.
