Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad believes opener Saim Ayub is “far ahead” of the other batsmen in the national team right now.

Ayub has been in sizzling form as of late as he has been notching up numerous centuries in ODI cricket.

The 22-year-old recently featured in Pakistan’s white-ball series against Australia and made 125 runs in three ODIs, which included a top score of 82, at an average of 41.66.

He then went to Zimbabwe with the men in green and amassed 155 runs in three ODIs, which included a career-best 113 not out, at an average of 77.50.

As for the three-match T20I series, he ended up with 60 runs in two games at an average of 60.

Pakistan then travelled to South Africa and Ayub maintained his momentum in the limited overs series, starting with 129 runs in two T20Is, which included a career-best knock of 98 not out, at an average of 129.

He then struck 235 runs in three ODIs, which included two hundreds, at an average of 78.33.

As for the two-Test series, he ended up with 41 runs at an average of 20.50. However, he didn’t bat in the 2nd Test in Cape Town as he fractured his ankle while fielding on the opening day and will be sidelined for up to six weeks.

Despite Ayub’s setback, Shehzad has been very impressed with him and hopes he continues dominating when he returns.

“He’s looking far ahead than every other batsman in [the] Pakistan team [at the moment],” Shehzad said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Pakistan recently faced the West Indies in a two-Test series, which finished as a 1-1 draw.
