Pakistan batsman Sohaib Maqsood admitted he is “so happy” to see opener Imam-ul-Haq back in the Test team for the upcoming two-match series against the West Indies as he “richly earned his place”.
Imam last played Test cricket in December 2023, but put up a number of strong performances in domestic cricket to capture the selectors’ attention once again.
During the recently-concluded Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, the 29-year-old was the third-highest run-scorer with 635 runs in five matches for Multan Region, which included three centuries and a fifty, at an average of 79.37.
“So happy for Imam-ul-Haq, richly earned his place,” Maqsood said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pakistan were whitewashed 2-0 in their last Test assignment, which was against South Africa.
They will now be looking to turn their fortunes around in the two-Test series against the West Indies, which will be held in Karachi and Multan from January 16 to 28.
