Former Pakistan cricketer Yasir Hameed thinks it was a “big mistake” for the selectors to keep power-hitter Fakhar Zaman out of the national team.
Zaman missed Pakistan’s last few limited overs series against Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
The 34-year-old noted that he had been suffering from hyperthyroidism, but he did end up featuring in the Champions T20 Cup, where he was the third-highest run-scorer with 303 runs in 10 matches for the Markhors, which included two fifties, at an average of 30.30 and a strike-rate of 132.31.
Considering his good form and the experience he brings, Hameed questioned why the selectors have continued to ignore the Mardan native.
“I think keeping out Fakhar Zaman was big mistake,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pakistan and South Africa recently completed a two-Test series, which the Proteas won 2-0.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a two-Test series against the West Indies, which will be played in Karachi and Multan from January 16 to 28.
