Pakistan batsman Sohaib Maqsood said he always knew mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed would be a good white-ball bowler.
Abrar has seen more opportunities come his way in limited overs cricket, starting with Pakistan’s tour of Zimbabwe, where he took six wickets in three ODIs at an average of 13.
He then picked up four wickets in two T20Is at an average of 12.25.
As for the tour of South Africa, the 26-year-old began with three wickets in two T20Is at an average of 22.
Abrar then featured in the three-match ODI series and finished with four wickets in two games at an average of 20.
Having seen the Karachi native’s impressive performances with the ball, Maqsood admitted it is pleasing to see Abrar making the most of the opportunities being given to him.
“I always said Abrar is genuinely a white-ball bowler, [he was] finally given a chance and proved it,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pakistan and South Africa just finished playing a two-Test series, which the Proteas won 2-0.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a two-Test series against the West Indies, which will take place in Karachi and Multan from January 16 to 28.
