Former South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris has called Pakistan middle order batsman Saud Shakeel as “serious player”.

His comments come after Shakeel scored a hard-fought 84 in the second innings of the 1st Test between Pakistan and South Africa in Centurion.

Morris noted that the 29-year-old looked as if he was “batting on a different surface” and “played the short ball brilliantly”.

“We spoke about how difficult the pitch is – it looked like Saud Shakeel was batting on a different surface, on a road. His balance was so good, and the way we paced his innings was excellent,” he was quoted as saying by Geo Super.

“This was an outstanding innings – he played the short ball brilliantly after getting out to it in the first innings. An unbelievable innings on a difficult wicket. He’s a serious player.”

Despite Shakeel’s valiant effort with the bat, Pakistan ended up losing the 1st Test by two wickets.

The 2nd Test between Pakistan and South Africa will get underway on January 3 in Cape Town.
