Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has made it clear that Babar Azam “does not need to prove anything to anyone”, but conceded that it would be great to see him score big runs in the 2nd Test against South Africa in Cape Town.
Azam made 4 and 50 in the 1st Test in Centurion, which the men in green lost by two wickets.
However, for the 30-year-old, his half-century would have been a major relief as it was his first score of 50 in Test cricket since he made 161 against New Zealand in Karachi in December 2022.
With Pakistan 1-0 down in the series Ramiz admitted the Lahore native can show the world how good he is if he were to make a massive score.
“Babar Azam does not need to prove anything to anyone. It’s a great chance for Babar here to show the world how good he is by scoring runs under pressure in South Africa,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The 2nd Test between Pakistan and South Africa will begin on January 3.
