Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir has admitted that he laughs when Babar Azam is compared to India batsman Virat Kohli.
Amir thinks Kohli is far superior and “remains unmatched” in all three formats considering the number of matches he has won by himself.
Even though Azam has done wonders for Pakistan cricket, Amir insisted that the 30-year-old, along with England’s Joe Root and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, are nowhere near Kohli’s level.
“Virat Kohli is the greatest player of this generation. I laugh when comparisons are made between him and Babar Azam, Steve Smith, or Joe Root. Kohli has single-handedly won so many matches for India, which seems impossible for any one player. Across all three formats, he remains unmatched,” the 32-year-old was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam recently featured in Pakistan’s white-ball series against Australia and made 80 runs in three ODIs at an average of 80.
In the three T20Is that followed, he mustered 47 runs at an average of 15.66.
After the Australia tour, Pakistan went to Zimbabwe, but Azam was rested for both the ODI and T20I series.
The Lahore-born batsman returned for the ongoing South Africa series and began by scoring 31 runs in two T20Is at an average of 15.50.
He then proceeded to accumulate 148 runs in three ODIs, which included two fifties, at an average of 49.33.
Pakistan are now taking on South Africa in a two-Test series, which the Proteas lead 1-0 after winning the 1st Test in Centurion by two wickets.
In the 1st Test, Azam made scores of 4 and 50.
The 2nd Test will start on January 3 in Cape Town.
