Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed has praised left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir, calling him a “champion bowler”.

His comments come after Amir announced his retirement from international cricket once again.

The 32-year-old previously retired in December 2020 before coming back to represent Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

In the tournament, Amir did exceptionally well as he was the team’s joint-highest wicket-taker with seven wickets in four matches at an average of 10.28 and an economy rate of 4.50.

“[Amir is a] champion bowler and champion player,” Sarfaraz was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

The Pakistan team recently travelled to Australia for a white-ball series and triumphed 2-1 in the ODIs before getting hammered 3-0 in the T20Is.

They then headed to Zimbabwe and won both the ODI and T20I series 2-1.

Currently, the men in green are in South Africa and began by losing the T20I series 2-0 before rebounding to claim a 3-0 victory in the ODIs.

Pakistan and South Africa are currently involved in a two-Test series, which the Proteas lead 1-0 after winning the 1st Test in Centurion by two wickets.

The 2nd Test will begin on January 3 in Cape Town.
