Legendary Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist has named Mohammad Yousuf as one of his top three Pakistan batsmen of all time.
Gilchrist noted that Yousuf was a “class act” who possessed “so much composure” when batting.
Yousuf holds the record for the most Test runs scored in a calendar year as he amassed 1,788 runs in 11 Tests in 2006, which included nine centuries and three fifties, at an average of 99.33.
“Mohammad Yousuf, Yousuf Youhana he went by that name for much of his career, at one calendar year he was the leading run-scorer, I think he scored nine Test match centuries in a calendar year, he was a class act, so much composure, so much calmness around a time when it was a bit of a transitioning time for Pakistan cricket, so they built their whole match plan around him,” Gilchrist was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
The Pakistan team recently toured Australia and triumphed 2-1 in the ODI series before losing the T20Is 3-0.
They then travelled to Zimbabwe and won both the ODI and T20I series 2-1.
Next up for Pakistan will be a tour of South Africa, where they will play three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests.
The T20I series will start on December 10, while the ODI and Test series will begin on December 17 and December 26 respectively.
