Iconic Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist named Javed Miandad as his best Pakistan batsman of all time since he excelled against some of the best bowling attacks in the history of the sport.

Miandad represented Pakistan in 124 Tests and accumulated 8,832 runs, which included 23 centuries and 43 fifties, at an average of 52.57.

He also scored 7,381 runs in 233 ODIs, which included eight hundreds and 50 half-centuries, at an average of 41.70.

“What stood out for me about Javed Miandad were his numbers, which are outstanding. He was immaculate in Test cricket. But what makes him exceptional is the quality of attacks he had to face in his era. He faced the mighty West Indies, the formidable Australian attack, and many others. It was an era where most nations had really strong attacks, so he had to take them on against the best. That’s why he’s my number one,” Gilchrist was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

The Pakistan team recently toured Australia and came away with mixed results as they won the ODI series 2-1, but lost the T20Is 3-0.

They then went to Zimbabwe and triumphed 2-1 in both the ODI and T20I series.

The men in green’s next assignment will be a tour of South Africa, which will consist of three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests.

The T20I series will get underway on December 10, while the ODI and Test series will start on December 17 and December 26 respectively.
